Outer shell of softgels: The outer shell of capsules are produced with the combination of a potato starch matrix or gelatin. Gelatin matrix is consists of solvent, plasticizer, gelatin and other components like colorants & flavors.
Gelatin- bovine, porcine, or piscine (fish) origin. They comes in a wide assortments of bloom strengths. Resilient of the gel is usually based on the bloom strength means the higher the strength, the more bouncy the gel. Many oil based fills are capsulized by utilizing a bloom strength of 150. The higher bloom strength is commonly used for polyethylene (PEG) based oils. The disadvantages of porcine and bovine gelatin might be overcome by piscine(fish) gelatin.
Plasticizer- Sorbitol special and glycerin are the most common plasticizers that are gratified for their versatile nature.
