It relieves pain in mild arthritis but has no effect on the underlying inflammation and swelling of the joint.
In combination with opioid pain medication, paracetamol is also used for more severe pain such as cancer pain and pain after surgery. It is typically used either by mouth or rectally but is also available intravenous.Paracetamol is generally safe at recommended doses. The mechanism of action of paracetamol is yet not completely understood.
Unlike NSAIDs such as aspirin, paracetamol does not appear to inhibit the function of any COX enzyme outside the CNS, and this appears to be the reason why it is not useful as an anti inflammatory. It acts by inhibiting COX in brain in addition which may contribute to its ability to treat fever and pain. This activity does not appear to be direct inhibition by blocking an active site, but rather by reducing COX, which must be oxidized in order to function.
Paracetamol takes up to an hour to work.
The usual dose of paracetamol is one or wo 500mg tablets at a time.
Donttake paracetamol with other medicines containing paracetamol.
Paracetamol is almost safe to take in pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended doses.
Trypsin chymotrypsin
Chymotrypsin is a digestive enzyme which is a component of pancreatic juice acting in the duodenum where it performs proteolysis, the breakdown of proteins and polypeptides. Trypsin furthermore activates the chymotrypsin. In the duodenum, trypsin catalyzes the hydrolysis of peptide bonds, breaking down proteins into smaller peptides. Proteases hydrolyse the peptide products and hence rendering them available for absorption into the blood stream. Tryptic digestion is a necessary step in protein absorption because proteins are generally too large for absorbing through the lining of the small intestine.
